Govan: Thriving Place

This film was made as part of a Participatory Action Research project about community engagement, community empowerment and what the introduction of the Glasgow City Council’s “Thriving Places” initiative could mean for the residents of Greater Govan in Glasgow.

It touches upon the Community Empowerment (Scotland) Act of 2015 and asks how the community might come together to get more involved in influencing the decision making that takes place in their area. The filmmakers visited some projects and events to hear a few local voices…

PROJECT: Govan Thriving Places

In partnership with Galgael Trust and Govan Community Project, we have been invited to start a process of community conversations about the Glasgow City Council’s Thriving Places initiative, and how it might work for the residents of Govan.

With the Community Empowerment Act bringing new opportunities for communities, could Thriving Places provide a platform for collaboration and shared goals? If so, how could that work so that as many people as possible are involved in developing the plans for their community.

As part of this project we will be running a series of events, happenings and community film workshops to raise awareness about Thriving places, Govan’s Locality Plan and what “Thriving” means to the people of Govan.
