PROJECT: Poverty: Our Hidden Shame?

The Create Crew, a group aged from 13 – 18, made a documentary about the impact of austerity on young people and how it affects their opportunities, aspirations and their community. “Poverty: Our hidden shame?” is the product of nine months of work exploring and challenging the impacts of poverty in the community. Taking a participatory action research approach, they explored issues they feel passionately about, whilst planning and conducting interviews with a diverse range of contributors and young people to ensure they gained a balanced view. The film was initiated through partnership with Plantation Productions and the GalGael Trust and was commissioned by OXFAM Scotland and the South Sector Health Improvement Team, NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Poverty: Our hidden shame? has been shortlisted for the Arts and Humanities Research Council’s prestigious 2016 Research in Film Awards in the Inspiration category. The winning films will be announced at a special ceremony at BAFTA in London on the 10 November. Watch this space!
