A group of forgotten champion boxers who emerged from one tough street in Barrowfield. Only one was destined to take home gold.
This is the remarkable story of Bobby Mallon a Boxer from Barrowfield, Glasgow who despite his visual impairment went on to win the Gold medal at the 1962 Commonwealth games in Perth, Australia as an amateur Flyweight. In his eventful career Bobby fought over 300 opponents as an Amateur Flyweight and Bantamweight, and fought and won against the likes of Alan Rudkin, Jim Watt and John McCluskey. Bobby also won an ABA title and 5 western district medals at 3 different weights.
Despite his successes Bobby Mallon has been forgotten.
This film will trace his life story from his humble beginnings, triumphs in the ring and finally his return home as a hero to the Scottish people. We will take a look at the story of the boxers that emerged from the same street as Bobby and the legacy they have left behind.
