Weaving Truth With Trust

The Portal Artists in Residence studio (AIR Space) is a purpose built workshop where the community can participate in a range of creative projects with our resident artists – Geraldine Greene, Fiona Fleming and Alexandra Bowie.

Weaving Truth with Trust

Taking its name from the motto of the Govan Weavers Society, ‘Weaving Truth With Trust’ is a collaboration between community groups, artists and archaeologists to create a textile screen to be displayed in Govan Old Church. The church is home to the ‘Govan Stones‘, a collection of medieval sculpture carved in a unique style which flourished at a time when Govan was the centre of the Kingdom of Strathclyde over 1200 years ago. The project will also draw inspiration from Govan’s rich history of textile manufacturing, from handloom weaving to silk mills. The completed screen will be hung next to the Govan Stones, celebrating the innovation, creativity and industry of the people of Govan, past and present.

We have been asked to forward this invitation from the Weaving Truth with Trust team:

Dear friends,

Please join us at Govan Old Church on Saturday 19th of July from 3pm -5pm to celebrate the unveiling of the textile screen created by the  Weaving Truth With Trust project.

The afternoon will be a relaxed, informal affair, featuring a lively mix of short talks, film, music, family-friendly hands-on activities, and some specially commissioned, delicious cakes!

We would particularly like to thank our funders and supporters, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Northlight Heritage, and our manufacturing partners MYB Textiles and Fluxworx for their help, support and patience over the past year.

Please circulate this message to anyone you think might be interested in the project. It would also be helpful for us to have an idea of numbers prior to the event so RSVP if you can – we don’t want to run out of homebakes!

Hope to see you there.
